Week twelve! It is hard to believe that this week marked my third month at PublicSource, leaving me one month left in my internship. Time has truly flown by, but I am glad to be wrapping up some final stories as well.
This Tuesday I worked on the partner story on the rise in antisemitism and Islamophobia since October seventh. I had an interview with Pitt's Muslim Student Association president to get further perspective on the topic and spent the majority of my day putting together a first draft, compiling previous interviews and statements. I also staged a first-person story submitted to us on "lazy environmentalism," which was about simple things everyone can do for a better environment. I finally had my weekly meeting with my reporter mentor after not being able to meet for a week due to the general elections, where we talked about further sources for the partner story.
On Thursday, I wrapped up the first draft of Israel-Hamas war impact on Pittsburgh story. I had a few more student interviews which has given me much more practice with sensitive topics and subjects in interviews. I also had one final interview for the family court story, and this was a more general background information on struggles in the system with a mother. Again, it was a very heavy interview, and I felt really bad that a lot of her story was not going to make it into the final piece, but I was very grateful for the experience.
