Nearing the finish line

I feel like I keep saying how it is hard to believe that whatever week it is is already here, but it is true. It is hard to believe that this was week seven of my internship and that next week is my last week. Time has truly flown by, and this is a hard goodbye. I really have been enjoying my internship experience and would love to be hired at Trib Total Media post-graduation.

Monday was kind of a catch up day from any emails and comments I received Friday and over the weekend. I worked on the stories from events last Friday that the other Greensburg intern and I attended together. I continued trying to wrap up this auto repair story. My editor wants source from people who have gotten their cars fixed recently, which makes total sense, but it has been impossible to find. I also planned out the rest of my schedule for the remaining weeks.

Tuesday I think was the first day I can say I did solely internship work the entire day. While I mainly do internship work during my day, there are some slow periods that I work on school things. However, I did not get any time to do so. When I got into work, I met with my editor to go over my car repair story. I then went to a local repair shop to get some photos and got back in contact with some other shops for some final details in the story. I was so glad to finally be done with this assignment. Not that this story was particularly hard, it just took longer than expected to complete, much like the test scores story. I also finished writing my stories from Friday with the other intern at the office. It was nice to work together in person and made the whole process a lot easier. I then interviewed a member of a local church that one of my other editors wants a feature on. I got a lot of good information and sources to reach out to and hope I can wrap up the story before I finish my internship. Furthermore, I worked on a new story about a frog week event in the area.

After the busyness of the day before, I was glad to be at the North Shore office on Wednesday. I went out with another intern to cover some people tailgating for the afternoon Pirates game to use in our intern project. I was going to just do this myself, but they happened to be at the office too which was nice. I then wrote up a quick story for it. It was also cool to talk about photo placement with the other intern as I worked on the story. I do like working in a larger news room setting.

Thursday was quite the day as well. One of the interns and I went to Allegheny General Hospital on the North Side to observe an open heart surgery for the intern project. There are no words for this experience: it was absolutely insane. I never thought I would be covering something like this in my life, and it was incredible to see. I am not the best person when it comes to seeing blood, but I was proud of myself that I was able to keep it together. The entire staff was super nice and knowledgeable; I am so glad we got to do something like this. Afterwards, I went to the office to type up the story and interviewed the pastor of the church I am writing a feature on. I also planned some interviews for next week to wrap up my last few stories.

Here are my stories from the week:
