All wrapped up... kind of

Well, my time at PublicSource has come to an end, sort of. This week was my 15th and final week for my internship at PublicSource. While I am sad to see this experience end, I know that this will not be the last time I am in connection with the outlet and its reporters. I plan to continue fact-checking stories through freelancing next semester, and I would love to freelance stories as well if I have time. I hope the connections I made from this internship help me not only with my next internship next semester at WESA but in my future career post college graduation as well.
This Tuesday I continued interviewing parents for the intern collaboration story between us and the Pittsburgh Media Partnership. The story is on access and funding for childcare in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County, focusing on the ARPA funding coming to an end this month. I spoke with two parents, wrote up their interviews and scheduled another interview for later in the week.
On Thursday, I started my day with contacting sources I interviewed for the family courts story I worked on with Pittsburgh-based freelancer Meg St-Esprit. It was wonderful working with her on such an important piece, and I am proud to see the final product. I also interviewed a few other parents for the PMP collaboration. We also had our final lunch and learn which was led by us four PublicSource interns of the semester. It was mainly an ask all to the reporters and staff, sparking some interesting discussions about ethics and the balance of professional and personal lives. We also had our final editorial intern meeting. While our interactions were limited, I was really grateful to work with fellow intern Tanya Babbar, whom I related and learned so much with.
Here is the family courts story:
