March Madness

Updated: Dec 8, 2024

I cannot believe it is already March. This semester has been flying by and so has my time as editor-elect of The Globe.

This week was pretty hectic, naturally getting back from spring break, but the editor-in-chief could not make layout, and I had to run the pitch meeting and layout session all by myself. The editor-in-chief did leave out very detailed instructions about how he wanted the content to be fit on the pages, but I oversaw all the staff and helped with any questions and problems they had. I went out to take some photos for stories I got a taste of what my job will be like next year, and I am very excited. This gave me much more confidence in my abilities. I surprised myself with how much I enjoyed helping others and having more of a say in the final product. I also helped the newer news editor with the layout of the news section and think that they will be able to do it all by themselves next week, which is very exciting.

For articles this week, I covered an accident that happened during a student performance. Here is the story. I also wrote the weekly Globe's Point and an arts and entertainment piece on the musical adaptation of "Beetlejuice" that came to the area.

Curtains hanging to dry outside the PNC Theatre at the Pittsburgh Playhouse after an accident during the show "Newsies" caused the fire alarm and sprinklers to go off.

For the rest of the week, I worked on my normal duties of the news brief and Globe's Point, as well as an opinion's piece on the Alex Murdaugh trial and media coverage on it.
