Halfway done

This week was week seven of my editorial internship this semester at PublicSource. I think I finally have gotten the groove of how things operate at the outlet, and I am getting more comfortable with my role.

On Tuesday, I started my day by writing up my last interview, which was with an OBGYN doctor on Monday, for the story of a trans-inclusive fertility clinic coming to the Pittsburgh area. I also staged a story that was a collaboration with Pittsburgh City Paper, which was on local races to keep an eye on during this election season. This afternoon I had an interview with a local superintendent for my artificial intelligence (AI) in schools story. It was not the superintendent of the school district with the AI lab, but it was a great start.

I started my day on Thursday by writing up my interview with a local superintendent for my AI story. I also staged a story on some local board meetings still holding online meetings only, which is technically illegal since the county is no longer in a state of emergency from COVID-19. I updated our Board Explorer page to go with this story as well. We had our weekly lunch-and-learn meeting and talked about end-of-the-year planning. Our weekly intern meeting focused on core data tool resources for stories that involve a lot of data and statistics. We learned how to make information graphics for the website as well.
