Goodbye... for now

Well, these past two months have flown by. It is hard to believe that my internship with Trib Total Media is over. I do not want to leave. This experience was quite the whirlwind in the best way possible. I truly can see myself working for the company post-graduation, and I hope that my internship will leave a great impression and connections for the future. Now, let's get into one last week summary.

On Monday, my final remote work day, I wrote and finished my last intern project story, which was on the open heart surgery one of the other interns and I covered last Friday. I also worked on my church feature story and submitted a first draft. I then prepared for an interview on Thursday which will be my last one of the internship and require a fairly quick turnaround.

Tuesday was my final day at the North Shore office. It was nice to finally see one of my supervisors after a few weeks. While I have not seen her much throughout my internship, I am grateful for her oversight and hope to stay in touch. I also attended a Diversity Committee meeting in the afternoon with my fellow interns. I did not know the company had a diversity committee, and I am really glad that they took the time to have a discussion with us and listen to our experience and ideas. I truly hope that most of us interns end up at The Trib because we have learned how to work together, and I think, as the "younger generation," that we have some great ideas to advance the company not only in terms of diversity but overall. I think having conversations on diversity in and outside of the newsroom is so crucial to producing the best work environment and content that we can.

Wednesday was a short day in Greensburg. I was excited to be back at the office for the first time in over a week. I wrapped up a short story that I got at the end of the day yesterday about a local man charged with 10 felony counts of child pornography; this man also is on probation for similar charges already. I then went to shoot some video at a local car repair shop who were putting a head to a statue they have outside the building, which has been missing a head for over 20 years. The video did not get put in the story, which I was sad about, but it is always nice to get out of the office. We also had our last intern partnership meeting, where some of our supervisors attended. We got to talk about some of our most interesting or favorite stories that we worked on. I talked about the car industry update story I worked on and showed the article and photos online. I also discussed our intern project and gave a nice preview, as it is set to be published next week . We got to celebrate the project and national intern day a day early in the Greensburg office today, as it was the other intern's last day and mine was the next day. While I did not have a whole lot of time to get to know the other reporters, I do hope whatever connections I was able to form stick and that I see them in the future.

On Thursday, I had my last day in Greensburg and as an intern at Trib Total Media. I got to attend a press conference at the state police station in Greensburg. The conference was about an arrest of a man accused of killing a local girl 16 years ago. There was another reporter from the office covering the story, but since today was my last day and I did not have much work, my editor thought it would be good for me to see a press conference. I then had an interview to wrap up a story about a local frog week camp. We also had a staff meeting, only the second one that I have been able to attend.

All in all, I am so grateful for this experience and hope to have a future with The Trib.
