Creativity and collaboration

It is hard to believe that this week is already week six of my internship with Trib Total Media. Time has really flown by. While I am excited to have some time off before the fall semester, I am sad to see my time with The Trib dwindling down. This week was entailed a lot of creativity and collaboration, so let's get into it!
I started my week out on Tuesday, as there were events on Friday that I was covering. It has been nice to adjust my shifts around events, and the flexibility is very much needed in this industry. Tuesday was mainly an office day at the North Shore Clark Building office. I continued working on a quick story on local gymnasts winning national titles and an auto repair industry update. I also touched base with one of my supervisors who I have not seen in several weeks because of the Fourth of July. It is crazy to be talking about things I want to accomplish before the end of my internship. There is so much I want to do with so little time. I do really hope that I either intern here again or be hired full-time post-graduation. I also did a quick story on the grilled stickies returning to Eat'n Park and did some research into the events that fellow Greensburg intern Anna Mares and I will be covering for the intern project on Friday. The other interns and I also had a meeting to discuss progress and update each other on our plans for the week. It has been great to have other interns to bounce ideas off of without some of the pressure discussing ideas with a seasoned reporter or editor. I just love that this 24 hours in Pittsburgh project is just ours, too, showing what we can do and hopefully leaving a great impression on the editors.
Wednesday was a quick day before our weekly internship partnership meeting. I continued working on the auto repair industry update story and research on the events that I will be covering Friday. I also finally finished a short story on local gymnasts winning national titles. Our weekly intern meeting focused on feature and narrative writing with the editor from Pittsburgh Magazine, which was where I was initially placed for the partnership.
This Thursday I spent the day with the other Greensburg intern at the website and multimedia desk in Tarentum. It was nice to be back at the main office and learn more about the website part to the newspaper. I do think working in web design is something I am interested in and could see myself doing if an opening ever opens. I think there is a lot to be explored with social media when it comes to newspapers and could be happy doing any aspect of multimedia storytelling. I hope to take what I learned today and apply it to The Globe because our website and social media accounts are in dire need of a revamps.
Friday was a very busy day. I wrapped up some stories from the week and worked on the intern project. Throughout they day, we planned to attend and cover different things. I met up with a few interns in the evening an covered a music festival, a night market and the classic Gateway Clipper. It was great to get out of the office, and while we were working, it made it feel more like summer.
