Covering a controversy

This past week has been quite the whirlwind to say the least. When our university president resigned for "private, personal, and family" reasons, little did I know that it would become as big of a story that it has.
Last Wednesday, the staff received a confidential envelope including a printed article about the new interim president's wife's involvement in a local school board. His wife has stood up against Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives, policies, and programs. As we got the story, word started to spread around campus as well, raising concern from students, staff, and faculty. The editor-in-chief and I also did some more research into the president himself, finding out that he has donated over $11,000 to local Republican campaigns in the last year. Point Park is a very liberal and diverse campus, so this topic raised quite the concern as well.
The editor-in-chief and I worked very hard on the main news story this week, going through many hoops to get quotes from the new interim president and having to attend additional meetings. I also did interviews with students and the Student Government Association. Here is the story.
Here is the Globe's Point for this week as well.
I also wrote an opinion's piece on current issues my roommates and I have been having with campus maintenance. Here is that article.
As for the rest of the week, I worked on items for the following week's issue, such as the news brief, Globe's Point, and a news story about work study students facing reduced hours.
