A month left to go

Updated: Dec 8, 2024

There is approximately one month left of school as I am writing this. It is crazy how fast this semester has went and how close it is until I become editor-in-chief of The Globe.

This week was pretty standard. Monday was filled with our weekly pitch meeting and layout for this week's print issue. This week I got to work on a different kind of news layout, as we decided to have a picture cover the entire part of the top fold, as a big news story was featured this week: the last McDonald's in downtown is set to close by the end of April. We also had a lot of photos this week in general, allowing for more variety in the news layout which was nice. Here is the Globe's Point from this week. The editorial board also wrote a collection of McDonald's memories in honor of the downtown location's closing.

For the remainder of the week, I worked on my normal duties such as the news briefs, the Globe's Point, and helping and managing staff with their work for the week. I also worked on a Federal Work Study (FWS) update, which is that the program will remain for the rest of the semester and the Student Government Association (SGA) election results. I am excited to start leading layout for the month of April, getting me some experience in the editor-in-chief position before I become it in the fall.
